It is the 16th century, a time when countries are sponsoring journeys of exploration to claim new lands and seek riches. You serve Thomas, King of Iowgahastan, a small, unknown country in southern Europe. So far, Iowgahastan has successfully established colonies in North America and Africa. Still, Thomas seeks to increase his power even further.

The King seeks to hire an experienced sailor, to help find new lands filled with valuable resources. He is willing to pay this person top dollar. Many men have applied for the position. It is your job, as part of the search committee, to determine which applicant is best suited for the position. You must then make a presentation to the search committee and the King detailing your reasoning for this selection. Good luck!

Many men have applied for the position of King Thomas' explorer. Each member of the search committee will be assigned explorer to examine. In determining which man is best for the job, you will need to do the following:

1) Create a resume for the explorer using the template provided. Include the following elements:
*Objective: What job is the explorer applying for?
*Background - Does the candidate have any formal education or childhood experiences which would be relevant?
*Experiences: Does the candidate have any prior experiences sailing and discovering? Any experiences in dealing with different societies and cultures?
*Has the candidate received any awards or honors?
*References: Who could the committee talk to that could provide information about the candidate?

Look at the sample resume provided to better understand what the finished product will look like.

2) Persuade the search committee that your candidate is the best qualified person for the job by giving a 2-3 minute presentation. In your persuasive speech, use maps and other visuals to convince the committee that your explorer is best suited to help Thomas and the country of Iowgahastan. For further expectations, look at the evaluation section.

Use the resources at your disposal to learn more about your assigned explorer.
